The curing system of epoxy resin is mainly composed of epoxy resin, curing agent, diluent, plasticizer, reinforcing agent and filler, and has the following characteristics:

(1) With various forms, various resins, curing agents and modifier systems can almost meet various application requirements, ranging from very low viscosity to high melting point solids.

(2) Strong adhesion. Due to the existence of inherent polar hydroxyl and ether bonds in epoxy resin, it has outstanding adhesion to various substances.

(3) Low shrinkage. The reaction between epoxy resin and the curing agent is carried out through direct synthesis. There is no release of water or other volatile by-products. Compared with phenolic resin and polyester resin, epoxy resin only shows very low shrinkage (less than 2%) in the curing process.

(4) Mechanical properties because epoxy resin contains more polar groups and its molecular structure is closer after curing, the cured epoxy resin system has excellent mechanical properties.

(5) The cured epoxy resin system has excellent alkali resistance, acid resistance and solvent resistance.

(6) Electrical insulation properties the cured epoxy resin system has good electrical insulation properties in a wide frequency and temperature range. They are excellent insulating materials with high dielectric properties, surface leakage resistance and arc resistance.

(7) Dimensional stability the combination of many of the above properties makes the cured epoxy resin system have outstanding dimensional stability and durability.

(8) Mold resistance cured epoxy resin system is resistant to most molds and can be used in harsh tropical conditions. Main disadvantages of epoxy resin: its cost is higher than that of polyester resin and phenolic resin, and it is more toxic when using some resins and curing agents.
