In recent years, the coating industry has set off a vigorous wave of "oil to water". Many brands have successfully launched water-based paint products. Now it is becoming more and more hot. What are the results of this popular reform? Furniture water-based paint has a good reputation in environmental protection and safety, which is also the reason for the key promotion and use of the country. However, the sales situation of water-based paint is not optimistic. Many businesses say that water-based paint is "good but not popular".
Since water-based paint is not only environmentally friendly, but also comparable to oil-based paint in terms of comprehensive performance, as well as the strong support of national policies, why do furniture factories still "look away from water"? The main reason is that there are still some misunderstandings in the concept of water-based paint.
Myth 1: water-based paint is not as good as oil-based paint
As far as the current technical level is concerned, the hardness, wear resistance, adhesion, weather resistance, scratch and scratch resistance, fullness and other comprehensive properties of the water-based two-component waterborne paint with hydroxyl acrylic acid secondary dispersion as component A and crosslinked and cured with polyurethane are close to that of the two-component oily paint, which is comparable to that of similar oily paints. Although the performance of some water-based paints can be comparable to that of similar oil-based paints, there are also great quality differences between water-based paints. On the market, genuine goods and fake goods are mixed with fish's eyes. When purchasing, you can't blindly listen to them and be greedy for cheap. Instead, you should choose the right products according to the furniture material, personal washing and decoration requirements.
Myth 2: the understanding of water-based paint and oil-based paint is too extreme
There are two common extreme understandings in the construction of water-based paint. One is that the construction of water-based paint has no special requirements for drying equipment and construction technology as oil-based paint; Second, the investment in water-based paint drying equipment is too large for small factories to afford. Although the construction conditions of water-based paint are not harsh, its drying film-forming mechanism is completely different from that of oily (solvent) paint. Only by fully understanding and mastering the drying film-forming mechanism and characteristics of water-based paint and improving the construction conditions can the quality of paint film be ensured. So what should we pay attention to in the drying of water-based paint? Drying of waterborne paint, that is, the speed of water volatilization in the paint is not only related to temperature, but also related to environmental humidity. The higher the humidity, the slower the volatilization speed. The environmental humidity changes with temperature, weather and other factors. In sunny weather in winter, the environmental humidity is only about 10%, while in rainy weather in summer, the environmental humidity is as high as 95%. If the solvent volatilizes too fast or too slowly, various problems will appear on the surface of the paint film, which will have a great impact on the quality of the paint film. Therefore, the control of environmental humidity in the drying process of waterborne paint is very important.
